Nội dung tóm tắt:
This book is an attempt to systematically present problems and methods in a field, which is at present described mainly by the development and application of computer-based systems to aid in the solution of medical problems. Medical informatics lacks a prerequisite of the classical definition of a scientific discipline, namely an independent methodology. This stems from the fact that medical phenomena cannot completely be explained by means of a single science, because biological problems are multi-dimensional in nature. This situation, together with the broad spectrum of support required for the solution of medical problems, results in a diffuse concept of the field. Thus, it is difficult for the student to obtain a systematic survey of the whole field. Two further aspects also necessitate a systematic survey:t-tIt is increasingly necessary to integrate medical informatics into medical knowledge, in order that physicians be aware of tthe tcurrent efforts in the field and eventually contribute to its development.t-tThe view is gradually gaining in popularity that students of informatics should be made familiar with the opportunities of ttheir discipline as early as possible, which are mainly located in application areas. This systematic survey is intended to tacquire and interest the students in practical medical applications and is especially important, because the principles of tmedical informatics are in -parts substantially different from those of other information processing applications.
